As fire blazed just eight miles away from Sutter Santa Rosa
Regional Hospital, its chief executive Mike Purvis received a
phone call from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and Cal Fire,
the state’s fire agency. The hospital was officially being
ordered to evacuate.

The smell of smoke, though faint, could still be detected Tuesday
morning inside Sutter Santa Rosa Regional Hospital as medical
staff opened the doors to patients for the first time since the
Tubbs fire forced the hospital to evacuate eight days ago.
Everything — the walls, floors, medical equipment, patient
scheduling screens — looked spotless, as it did when the hospital

A Sonoma County judge has ruled that Sutter Health can continue
construction on its $284 million, 82-bed hospital in Santa Rosa,
the North Bay Business Journal reports. The new hospital, which
will replace the existing Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa, is
expected to open in late 2014.
