John Muir Health’s medical centers in Concord and Walnut Creek
recently earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke
Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Heart Failure Gold-Plus
Quality Achievement Award. This award recognizes John Muir
Health’s commitment and success in implementing a high standard
of heart failure care for patients by ensuring they receive
treatment that meets nationally accepted, evidence-based
standards and recommendations. This award is one of the highest
distinctions for heart care and treatment in the country.
John Muir Hospital in Concord is engaged in a dynamic partnership
with Mt. Diablo High School to offer a work-based learning
program designed to make students aware of health care careers,
and to also make them aware of their own potential. Many of
these students come from low-income families with no college
background. The jobs program with the Medical and
Biotechnology Academy at Mt. Diablo High School is a 3 year
pathway curriculum that exposes students to an experience they
can’t get in a classroom. The goal is to align classwork
with real-world job opportunities, and to awaken students to
opportunities for education and careers in the medical field.
Watch the video for a snapshot look at how these students, and
the community, benefit from this program at John Muir.
