Sacramento County and Dignity Health are undertaking an $18.7
million effort to relieve pressure on the region’s psychiatric
hospitals by opening a facility at Mercy San Juan Medical Center
that will treat patients in behavioral health crisis for up to 23
hours. (The Sacramento Bee)
Dignity Health announced Thursday it is distributing $1.05
million this year to dozens of community-based organizations in
Nevada, Sacramento and Yolo counties to help meet community
health needs outside its hospital walls.
The grants are going toward assisting the most vulnerable
residents of the region: at-risk children, survivors of human and
labor trafficking, individuals living with mental illness and
dementia, the homeless and ethnic groups with high rates of
chronic disease. (The Sacramento Bee)
Sometimes, an innovative surgery is only the first step in saving
a patient. The second might be something as basic as changing
their mattress material or the way they sit, to prevent the
formation of a life-threatening bedsore.
Mercy San Juan Medical Center has received certification as a
comprehensive stoke center, the first local hospital to be
recognized for its ability to provide complex stroke care.
Certification in this category by The Joint Commission, which
accredits health-care facilities nationally, puts Dignity
Health’s Carmichael hospital in an elite group of nine hospitals
statewide. It is the only hospital north of the Bay Area with
this designation. (Sacramento Business Journal)
Mercy San Juan Medical Center and Sutter Medical Center
Sacramento ranked among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the
nation that perform a minimum volume of bariatric surgeries,
according to a report released Tuesday by Healthgrades, a leading
provider of information on doctors and hospitals.
