The first Northern Sierra section meeting of the year was held in March and included the state’s expert on community paramedicine programs, which will go into place next year. He offered some examples, and the one of greatest interest had to do with getting behavioral health patients to treatment sites rather than being warehoused in emergency departments. While the model is sound and proven, it is dependent on alternative behavioral health destinations, which simply do not exist in much of the north state.
