Sutter Health debuts new ‘germ-zapping’ robot (Photos)

Sutter Medical Center Sacramento administrators on Tuesday demonstrated a new robot geared toward killing bacteria and germs that can potentially harm patients.

The hospital is the first in the region to put the Xenex Germ-Zapping Robot into use, Sutter representatives said. The portable robot, named “Xhaiden I,” by the hospital staff, is placed in rooms that are being cleaned. It uses a pulsing xenon ultraviolet light that’s thousands of times more intense than sunlight to destroy harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi and bacterial spores on hospital surfaces, according to a Sutter Health news release.
