Officials issue warning on opioid overdose increase in Monterey County

After nine overdoses in the past nine days, local law enforcement officials, health care providers and partners are calling for community help in mitigating the resurgence of the opioid crisis in Monterey County.

The county Health Department reported 29 opioid-related deaths in 2019 as of Sept. 29, a sharp spike from the nine fatalities in 2018 and seven in 2017. That number doesn’t include the overdose death of a 16-year-old girl in Seaside on Saturday. (
